A Daily Catholic Devotion for Zimbabwe’s General Elections

Opening Prayer:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 85:8-9
“Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts. Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.”

Reflection:
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as we approach the General Elections in our beloved Zimbabwe, let us come together in prayer and seek the guidance and intervention of our Heavenly Father. We humbly ask Him to soften the hearts of those in power, particularly President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who has reportedly used the police to ban opposition rallies. We implore God to touch their hearts, granting them wisdom and compassion, that they may uphold justice and allow for a fair and peaceful electoral process.

Prayer:
Loving God, we lift up our voices to You, the source of all righteousness and justice. We pray for our nation Zimbabwe, especially during this crucial time of elections. Lord, we ask that You soften the hearts of those in positions of power, particularly President Mnangagwa, that they may recognize the importance of respecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including the opposition Citizens’ Coalition For Change (CCC) led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa. May they promote dialogue, understanding, and unity among all Zimbabweans.

Mary, our Mother of Good Counsel, we turn to you in this time of need, knowing that you hold a special place in your heart for the people of Zimbabwe. Intercede on our behalf before your Son, Jesus Christ, and present our prayers to Him. We ask that you surprise us with a special gift during the month we celebrate your birthday. May this gift be a symbol of hope, unity, and progress for our nation.

We pray for Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the CCC, and all opposition parties. Grant them the strength, courage, and perseverance to continue working for justice and the betterment of our nation, even in the face of adversity. Bless their efforts with wisdom and discernment, that they may bring about positive change and contribute to the growth and prosperity of Zimbabwe.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we embark on this day, we commit our nation, its leaders, and its people into Your hands. Guide us with Your Holy Spirit and help us to discern the truth, to act with integrity, and to work for the common good. May the upcoming General Elections be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, fairness, and transparency. Bless our land with prosperity, unity, and a spirit of reconciliation.

We offer these prayers through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

May God bless Zimbabwe and all its people.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
